A Picture Tribute to Murphy
Today at 2pm We let Murphy Go. I buried him not far from here over looking a huge valley and stream. Huge pine tree's and the chattering of squirrels. I can't believe how hard it was. I know he's not a child but what do we have to base it on. It is a huge loss in our family. We miss him and know He is better off now and our hearts are full of gratitude for his life and his place in our family, he can't be replaced and he will always be remembered. We Love You
Murphy the pancake hoarder
At his prime, and man did he hate cat's
Such a smart and loyal companion. He loved us unconditionally
His last day with us, happy after eating a bowl of chocolate chips and a pack of hotrods
We will miss him. Goodbye Smurf, Goodbye my friend

Sorry for your loss.
Pets become very much like offspring to most of us with animals. It's tough to let go.
Godspeed Murphy.
We sure are sorry to here about Murphy, Our thoughts are with you and Deb, when we talk about you two, to the kids, we have to say your the ones with Murphy the dog, and then they know who we are talking about. He truly was a member of your family and a true friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.
friendship is forever

Just got the email, sorry for your loss. He was unique and amazing. I often wondered who norm was married too. As far as animals go, he was special. I think he had a great run!! You treated him with respect and dignity from the beginning until today. I believe pets, like children, are a product of their home and "parenting". Good job, both of you.

Norm,
I am sorry to hear about Murphy... I just got done reading your cancer situation as well and I gained a greater respect for Murphy! He was a good dog and a good friend. As I read your experience with cancer I felt I understood you a bit more. I'm sure it is not an experience you wuold wish upon another but I am glad that you were strong and fought as much as you did. If you hadn't I would not have had the pleasure of meeting you. They say if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger... As far as your midlife crisis... Do what makes you happy, if it's tournament fishing then go for it. Life's no good if you don't have fun.
As for us down here things are going good. My wife is busy with the kids and working hard at that. We're enjoying the summer heat even if it gets to 115 degrees ocassonally. Work for me is going well, I am currently getting ready to bid a new master planned community and manage the entire building process. It keeps me busy and I am enjoying it. Overall things are going good. Let me know what you end up doing for work. Knowing you I'm sure you'll be able to do anything you want. I'll catch you later. Tell Deb hello for me.

Hi guys -
Thank you for the note about Murph - I am sorry that time caught up with him - he was an amazing dog / friend in his day - My kids and I have fond memories of him jumping into the back of your truck without the end gate down, running as fast and furious as he could go to chase a cat (RRR) - so focused - he did hate those darned cats - he was amazing - but most of all - he was a true friend. Norm, you teased him relentlessly - and seems as though he always forgave you - go figure, he knew where the next meal came from - - - When we were up there the last time, it was hard to see Murph like he was - it just wasn't the old Murph we were used to -
Yes, a part of your family is gone, and that's OK - but like you said, Gone but not Forgotten - He was a great friend/pal and we know he will be remembered always !!
Thanks for sharing your memories with us!
Yes - - All dogs/pals go to Heaven !!!
Best wishes - Luv ya's
CherE and the kids !!!
Isn't it amazing how many people actually know Murphy? Just as many people will miss him. I can take all kinds of stuff, but I've only been able to watch "Old Yeller" and "Where the Red Fern Grows" once, because I just couldn't stand to watch them again.
The hardest things I've ever had to do were say goodbye to my mission and say goodbye to a dog, and neither one of those things were a part of my life as long as Murphy has been a part of yours.
If I was a drinker, I'd definitely be raising a glass...he was just about the perfect pal.
Hey Norm and Deb,
I read this at about 4 this morning. I shed a tear.
So many of our memories include murphy.
The day you brought Murphy to mom and dads as a tiny little pup (a cotton ball). He would run all around with that little black spot. As he grew and Spencer grew he played so nicely with the kids. I remember Spencer just yanking with all his might at his ears, I was concerned thinking no dog would put up with that. All Murphy did was look at Norm as if he was asking permission to get up and away from the pain. He would not move until you told him he could.
Then there was the time we went after some skunks, it was dark that night, Murphy went after the skunk and Rick and I followed Murphy while Norm kept the light shining. Rick and I followed Murphy's tail as we saw at wagging in the spot light. We got sprayed and never found the skunk. We went back to the truck and there was Murphy sitting by Norm with what apeared to be a smirk. I told Norm and that is when we realized we were following the skunk not Murphy. Murphy did not have a tail. I am sure he got one whiff of what was about to happen and said I'm out of hear let those stupid humans go.
When we helped you guys move from Grand Praire I was driving a loaded van and had the privelage of bringing Murphy with me. What a fun trip. I quickly learned not to say "What's That". Once you said that Murphy would jump up, with the loudest bark, and try to find the cat.
So many good memories...
We told the kids today, there were tears. Hailey said "Dad Murphy is with Jesus", I imagined Jesus standing atop a mountain with Murphy at his side.... Norm all dogs do go to heaven.
Murphy had a good life, He was such a joy to so many people mostly he was a joy for you. His love was unconditional because of the great love you have for him.
Love you guys,
Murphy we love you and you will be missed.

It is sad to see Murphy's era on earth come to an end. :(
His job was done, and done well. :)
Cheers,
Rod
Murphy was one of my best friends too. I was so lucky to have him as my dog when I lived with Norm and Deb in GP. He slept in my bed but he was Norm and Deb's dog. We had a blast taking him out shooting gophers. We never did have to pull one off the arrow, that was Murphy's job and if we weren't quick enough, he'd wreck an arrow because he rufused to wait for us to catch up. One of the smartest hounds I ever knew (don't let Chels know I said that). "Wanna go for a ride???!" Boy could he jump into the truck. I've never seen a dog jump like that either. He was a dog of great patience and obedience. He loved people and I'm sure he thought some of us were so ignorant. I remember standing on the kitchen floor and sliding Murphy through my legs on his back across the kitchen. He'd get up and start barking at me like I was in trouble and he'd come back for more. Or we'd sit on the floor and have him lay down with his head close to us on his back. We'd grab his back legs and pull him up doing a flip and he'd land on his feet coming back barking again for more. The bark wasn't "that was fun do it again", it was "you got to be kidding me!!" LT was his name when a pup. He'd lick you every chance he had, even when you thought you were safe. My favorite was sitting on the couch and finding pancakes behind the cushions. He was a great dog from start to finish. I'll miss him lots. Thank you Norm and Deb for bringing Murphy to all our lives. I only wish that Kyle could have had the chance to know him.
Hey Norm and Deb:
I am so sorry to hear about Murphy. I was shock to sigh on tonight and see an e-mail from you guys titled “Just a Tribute to Murphy”. I thought to myself “No, it couldn’t be!” but it was. I know that I didn’t know Murphy like a lot of your friends but anyone could tell he was a very special dog. Mal is in Toronto for the next few days and I will be talking again to him tomorrow night. He will be so sad to hear that Murphy passed away.
I don’t know about animals not being like a “child”. You raise them and care for them, worry about them, take pride in them, it sounds like a child to me. Once again I am sorry.
PS. I love your web site!! You guys are so cool! Can we be your friends?J
Dee
Norm and Deb I am so sorry that you have had to put Murphy down. I remember him as a pup when you guys lived out at the farm past Aetna. He was such a good dog. I hope you find the joy in your new Katie like you did in Murphy.
The Ockey's
Norm and Deb,
I was very sorry to hear about Murphy, I know how sad it is to make that decision. I hope Katie helps mend the hole in your heart.
Take care.
Dan and Diane
Hey Norm, just got home last night from Toronto. Had a cry this morning for my friend. Putting a dog down is very hard, if you haven't done it you don't know. All my love to My Friend,
Moki-Long-Speaker
